Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Yes, AdSense is like a money plant. But it does require your hardwork to plant it and cultivate it. You need to take care of the plant so that it never dries and dies off.

I do not want to brag about how to increase your earnings and all. There are thousands of such guides available in the net. All you need to do it is google for it.

This article will tell about few things that you will have to consider about your AdSense account. And most things are for new users:

Disable Horizontal ScrollBar in IE

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Last night, I was working on a template for a new bulletin board software. Well the bulletin board is being developed by my friend. And am taking designing part of it. Let the software and person be forbidden. While designing the homepage, we noticed horizontal scrollbar in IE 6 & 7 @ low resolutions. So he informed me regarding that.

And I thought of using javascript in the beginning, but he argued not to do that, because the reason is simple. Not everyone’s browser will have javascript installed/enabled. So I remembered a small CSS code, which can do the job. Then, we solved the problem.

So, I thought of writing a small tutorial which teaches about disable or removing unwanted horizontal scrollbar in IE6 / IE7 without using any javascripts.

How to block unwanted elements on ThinkDigit Forum.

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Well, this is tutorial is not just limited to ThinkDigit forum, it can also be applied to other forums and websites as well. The reason for the title is because this forum is favorite of many people, including me (not now, though).

Recently the forum was upgrade to the latest version of vBulletin 3.7.0. And along with that forum has got new theme as well with annoying ads in the sidebar. Everyone do not like to see their favorite site or forum in messed condition. And though if they do wish to see the forum in such condition, they never click on the ads and besides that they will be wasting their bandwidth.

So blocking the unwanted elements is the way to go. And to block the elements you may need to say good bye to your favorite web browser and switch to Firefox to say hello again to your favorite site or forum. So download and install the latest version of Firefox from here.

Many of guys know how to block ads by using Add-on such as Adblock Plus, but I bet few doesn’t know that there are Add-ons which can “actually” block the HTML and other elements on the page while loading!

To do that, first install adblock all the adsense or the other ads and then you need to download and install 2 Add-ons. Only one Add-on can do the job, but I recommend another one coz… I will tell you later.

First download and install a Add-on called “Aardvarkfrom here. And then download and install another called “R.i.Pfrom here. – Short for “Remove it Permanently”

After installing DO NOT DO ANY EXPERIMENTS until you read further instruction in the tutorial.

I said one Add-on can do the job, that is R.i.P. You can use it to remove the elements by just performing right click on the element and by clicking on “Remove this Permanently”. But there are chances that you will R.i.P “Wanted Elements”, so that’s the reason why you need “Aardvark”.

Create your own free forum.

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Introduction:
This tutorial lets you to create your own free forum in 45 minutes. This includes how to setup free bulletin board software in your web hosting server and configure it.

Web Hosting?
If you own a domain, that’s well and good. But make sure your hosting supports PHP. In case if u don’t have domain, you can purchase it for as low as 800 Rs / Year from different Web Hosting services.

Free Web Hosting:
If you are not ready or to wish to buy a domain and still want to create and run your own free forum, there are so many free web hosting services available in the internet. If you still want to go for a free web hosting service, I recommended www.x10hosting.com

x10hosting offers free web hosting service with cPanel and PHP support.

It has two different plans, Ad Enhanced and Ad Free.

Ad Enhanced gives you disk space up to 2.5 GB but you need to display their ads in your site/forum with 293 x 85 px banner.

So I Recommended you to go for “Ad Free” account which offers 300 MB of disk space with 10 GB / Month Bandwidth. This is more than enough to begin a new forum. Though you have a very little disk space, you can allocate attachment sizes and if possible you can encourage your members to upload files to public file hosting services and give the link back in the forum.
Step-by-Step Procedure to sign-up “Ad Free” Account:

1. Open x10hosting homepage and click on “Apply Now” under “Ad Free”
2. If you get a few pages with T.O.S, Keep Clicking on “Continue” button and agree all the T.O.S
3. Then finally you will end up with “x10Hosting Service Sign-up” Page
4. In “Step 1”, click on “Ad Free Plan”.
5. Now select your desired domain. For example, yourname.x10hosting.com. Click on confirm domain to see whether if the domain is available or not. If the domain is available, you will get this message “The domain you’ve chosen is currently available!”
6. Click on “Continue Process”, “Step 2” will get highlighted.
7. In “Step 2”, enter your “Account Details” & “Personal Details”. Click on “Continue Process”
8. In “Step 3”, agree the “TOS” and you will need to create an x10Hosting forum account before continuing. You can click on “Click here to register a forum account now.” to register a forum account.
9. Then if everything is correct, you will get this message, “Hosting account signup confirmation e-mail sent. Please check your e-mail for further instructions.”
10. You will then receive a confirmation message. Confirm it. Then if it requires you to wait for few minutes or if you are unlucky, few hours!
11. After the activation process is complete, you will receive an email which says, “x10Hosting – Ad-Free Hosting Account Created!” and it contains your account detail and the link to your cPanel.

Now you have completed the hosting part successfully. And now its time to install the “Bulletin Board Software”
