Yes, you are right! The TV! But this isn’t the same old Idiot Box, but this is the Reliance BIG TV (DTH).

In our home, we said good bye to the last mile Cable connection and opted for the Reliance BIG TV DTH Service.

I don’t wanna write a review on this thing, because there are already enough published in the internet by many users and review gurus. So I just would like to type in few words about the “service” in my little blog.

Being a service, it has its own advantages and disadvantages like every other services does. But I don’t think there is much disadvantages in Reliance BIG TV DTH service when compared to few others. I do agree that there are big brothers in the market who can slam BIG TV down, but when it comes to the pricing and the quality, Reliance BIG TV is great!

There are few people who say that the Customer Care for this service is a nightmare, but here in Bangalore, its really good and they has an excellent follow up with the customers. Even the installation guy has given his personal number so that I can contact him at any time!

Now let me tell you about how big is BIG TV and how to get it.

Getting a connection is hardly 2 day procedure In most parts of the Bangalore, if you are lucky you may get it in 1 day!

All you have to do is locate your nearest local BIG TV retailer who sells the GSK (Get Started Kit) and go there and order him the package you want (you can view all the available packages over here in the official site) and give him your home address. He will come to your home on the same day or if it is evening, he will come on the next day and hand over the GSK to you. Now you can make him the payment in the home. And then he opens the GSK and shows all the package contents to you and will take out the Smart Card and will register its number to the BIG TV customer care. And then they will tell him the day the Installation guys will come to your home. Most often they come on the same day or if it is too late or if they working on setting up connection, they will arrive on the next day. The retailer won’t give you the Dish. He just gives the GSK and an application form which you have to fill in and keep it ready by the time the installation guys arrive to your home.

Then the Installation guys will come to your home and start setting up the connection. They do it under 2 hours! They activate your connection, recharge your connection and will setup all the hardware, plug-in the wire, start the software installation and then show you a small demo and there you go! You can start watching the Idiot Box 2.0 Haha.. With MPEG 4 video quality.

They take your application form along with them and you also need to submit Identity and Address proof along with your mirror cracking passport photo. They ask you for the Regional Pack to choose (you can view all the available regional packs in the main site) and it takes 1 day for them to activate it. Also few pay channels will be activated along with the regional pack.
